H50, NCIS:LA

SEALs vs. Pirates (Intro to NCIS:LA)

So the fine men & women of the US Navy rule the 7 seas of planet Earth uncontested, no? (she says knowing full well most of her subscribers are non-USAers…. NOH8! non-USAers…) And of the US sailors that sail the 7 seas, the US Navy SEALs, the elite forces, are the cream of that crop (sorry, couldn’t think of a water/ship-based metaphor, though I’m sure one exists…). And those SEALs, man, they have seen just about everything, haven’t they?

Even zombies, if you believe McG. But that’s not the point of this entry. The point of this entry is to say: WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING NCIS:LA? And if you are: CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR EXCELLENT LIFE CHOICES.

NCIS:LA is a show that’s a lot like H50 — easy on the eyes, funny, loveable, packs a serious action punch, drama that can pull at your heartstrings & all the while it keeps you guessing & smiling & coming back for more every week, plus BROMANCE OUT THE WAZOO. This is not your Grandma’s JAG or NCIS (regular flavor).

This is a MOST EXCELLENT show for us fans of H50 to learn to love — and the producers & studios think so too — because there has been one crossover already (when NCIS:LA agent Kensi Blye appeared on H50 S2e5 “The Good Fight” last year) & there will be another in May 2012 when NCIS:LA agents G. Callen & Sam Hanna cross over to H50 & Danno & McG return the favor, crossing over to NCIS:LA in what sounds like will be a two-parter of EPIC proportions.

My goal, before that May crossover airs, is to get all y’all who are NOT viewers of NCIS:LA up to speed on the characters of that show, in order to give you a better appreciation of it when the crossover happens. And the first thing you need to know, or the first thing you may care about, is that Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) is a Navy SEAL (like McG!), now based in Los Angeles, California & working for NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) a federal agency tasked with solving crimes involving military personnel or related to national security.

His partner, G. Callen, (played by Chris O’Donnell) is a bit of a loner, a real low-key, repressed guy. He often clashes with Sam over their different approaches to teamwork — Sam, being a SEAL, is ALL about the team & togetherness, where Callen has a tendency to go off on his own, international man of mystery, secret-agent style.

In this clip, Sam & G are approaching a dive bar where a suspect may be hiding out. Sam begins by provoking G and in response, G does a classic course change in the conversation, bringing up Sam’s upcoming vacation on a sailboat. G’s tease brings out Sam’s SEAL machismo, never far from the surface.

Ugh, flawless banter. They swagger in unison, I swear, I love it (and after clicking through this scene frame by frame, I can tell you that they blink at opposite times…. which is interesting, but not so great when trying to get a good screen cap)!

This show really has it all. It has Chris O’Donnell & LL Cool J! The rest of the cast is also amazing & perfect, I will not be skipping over them! This Show has never disappointed me… never made a bad decision… is unafraid to make the right decisions… and has made some difficult decisions… These are all things I hope to discuss.

So: You have been warned, this is not the last you will see or hear from me on NCIS:LA! Any questions, put them in the comments, I will be sure to address! With pics & vids! Promise!

  2. I admit that I have never watched an episode of NCIS. The original, LA, Bang. C/ck. or any other place. But I am all about due diligence and I will start watching aforementioned show so that I will have, at minimum, some basic character knowledge in place for epic crossover.

  3. Yeah I’ve started watching a couple. Saw a good one this week where Callen goes to help Sam who gets into trouble undercover. Seemed good.

    • Was it the one where Sam went to Sudan, to find his friend & convinced the bad guys sister to give evidence in return for asylum? That was a good episode.

      • Think so, didn’t see the beginning. It was on last Sunday in the UK. Sam had been building up a relationship with the woman and she was v upset in the end (as you would be).
