The last we see of Morgan.

Mick realizes the truth.
The episode begins with a brutal, unexpected stabbing before we flash back to 24 hours in the past…
The slat of a chair back used as a makeshift stake.
Beth, having finally pieced together the mystery of her childhood kidnapping with Mick’s admission she had been taken by his ex-wife Coraline back in 1985, is now determined to clear up the matter once and for all. She focuses her attention on Morgan, the “dead ringer” for Coraline and vows to either exonerate Morgan, or reveal her to be Coraline. She recruits Mick to assist her.
Beth taunts Mick about Morgan.

Mick considers his client’s requests.
Meanwhile, Mick takes the case of a middle-aged and wealthy man who has requested Mick track the movements of his much younger and very beautiful wife. The man asks Mick to provide proof that the woman either is, or is not, having an affair.
Mick watches Morgan order french fries and french wine.
Over lunch, Mick convinces Morgan to accept his apology for his behavior at the cemetery and work the case with him. Together, they track the movements of the wife, who appears to have met up with her lover at a public park.
Morgan and Mick work together on the investigation.

Morgan and Mick, about to share a kiss.
While watching the couple in an private moment at a hotel, Mick and Morgan kiss, a fact which Mick is eager to hide from Beth. Morgan continues to make comments and allusions that make Mick feel uncomfortable and act awkwardly.
Beth investigates the meaning of the Fleur de Lis.
Conducting her own investigation, Beth has looked through Morgan’s apartment and found photos of Mick from the 1950s. Evidence in hand, she visits Josef who convinces Beth that if Morgan is indeed Coraline, she must be a vampire, as there is absolutely no way to “cure” one’s vampire state.
Josef consults with Beth.
Josef also provides Beth with the address of Coraline’s 1950s “party house” where Mick worked as a musician. Inside that house, Beth finds the proof she is looking for as she realizes that Morgan is indeed Coraline, as her repressed memories return.
Beth investigates at Coraline’s house.

Mick gazes upon Morgan after saving her life.
Mick and Morgan, having narrowly escaped the life-threatening dangers of solving their own mystery, return to Mick’s loft where, in an intimate moment, they share more kisses and Mick realizes Morgan is indeed Coraline, who has found a way to become human.
Mick tries to explain to Beth.
Beth arrives, and taking in the scene, assumes Mick and Coraline have had sex. Enraged by Coraline’s duplicity and seeing a chance to take her personal safety into her own hands, Beth strikes out, with devastating and unexpected consequences…
Beth sees Coraline coming down the stairs, wearing Mick’s shirt.

Beth expresses no regrets.

Notes:
A) So I guess after she got to thinking about it Beth *was* sort of pissed at Mick after learning she’d been kidnapped by his ex 20 years ago. Those comments she was making in the car had some not-so-veiled hostility and more than a touch of passive-aggressiveness (actually kind of aggressive-aggressive, tbh).
B) Morgan: I used to date a lot of musicians… and then, I’ve never been ‘almost killed’… (oh that’s SO LOW!)
C) We have a date for the party!! The picture of Mick was labeled 1952 – And since we know the wedding was also in 1952… “whirlwind romance” it is!
Beth finds a picture of Mick in Morgan’s apartment ~ The date on the picture ~ From “Dr. Feelgood” where Mick flashes back to his honeymoon.
D) This moment:
Morgan: Maybe we could make it a threesome? Mick: ………….. Beth: Die in a fire Morgan!
…OK, maybe Beth just said that with her eyes…
E) So cute, Beth & Josef’s little friendship.
Beth gets the low-down on Mick & Coraline from Josef.
F) Feel bad for Mick in this ep, Morgan is making him wonder why he bothered to get out of the freezer this morning, and Beth’s mad & she’s the one who asked him to keep Morgan distracted in the first place! So we end with poor Mick’s thinkyface…
He’s not old-fashioned…

13. …except the whole ‘looking like the ex and all’. Crikey, if someone turned up who looked like any of my exes, I would run screaming in the other direction.
14. Josef! I missed you.
15. I’ve thought this before, that to Coraline, kidnapping Beth was not really much different to a human getting a puppy – taking her from her home and her family at a very young age, making a comfortable space for her in her new home…. Coraline’s not human and doesn’t really think of humans as being anything like her, so she wouldn’t consider Beth’s feelings at all beyond thinking that she would settle into her new life in time. She didn’t treat Beth badly, it was only when Mick wasn’t as delighted as she thought he’d be that it went wrong.
16. Another fabulous bathroom scene. So much awesomeness here – Mick’s relief that he didn’t really kill her, moving straight to ‘how have you done this’ without ever going through ‘let’s get back together’. Although hmmm… not sure what would have happened if Beth hadn’t arrived right then.
17. I’m not really sure what to think about the staking incident. Obviously, Coraline is human now – but she’s still the same person she was before, and therefore still completely psychotic. I suppose it depends on how much of Beth’s actions were motivated by fear/wanting to protect herself (and Mick, after what Josef said) and just wanting revenge.
I liked this episode very much – it moved the story on a lot after Episode 8 set it all up nicely, and it had a lot of great lines and too many lovely little moments to list them all (plus some other *moments* that I haven’t quite recovered from yet, mostly shower-related). I’m glad in a way that I watched these so quickly the first time around, because I can’t really remember what happens after this, so it’s like watching for the first time all over again. Result!

I feel it was kind of the “anvil dropping on my head” choice, I’m not 100% proud of it, even though I think it ended up working very well with my write up & pictures. That novel man, no one thinks about just how old it is and they’re still making movies of that story, with those characters. Dumas is just SPECIAL (as my many times read paperback of Count of Monte Cristo will attest to). Also — It occurs to me that atplenkov must have gone to the “Alexandre Dumas School of Writing Female Characters.” Curriculum goes like this: Are they evil? EXCELLENT. Are they good? OH SH/T.

With this ep’s themes of fidelity (Sleazeball/Murderous Wife, Mick/Coraline – because if she’s not dead then technically they’re still married – and the ongoing Mick/Beth/Josh what-are-we-even-calling-this) and disappointment in marriage (because neither Mick nor Coraline got exactly what they bargained for, and neither did Sleazeball for that matter, although it’s hard to feel sorry for him), I was expecting Madame Bovary. Which I think out-anvils The Three Musketeers by some way.
I love your literary interludes because they don’t seem in any way related to the episodes *until* you quote them. I would never watch this ep and think ‘wow, this really reminds me of The Three Musketeers’, but the quotes you’ve used are so perfect, and they sum up the themes of the episodes so well. Perfect.
Although, I have to confess that I’m not really familiar with Dumas except through film adaptations. *sigh* another one or two to add to the reading list….

Only its insane popularity over the last hundred years has people thinking it’s anything close to “literature.” 😉 Just because it’s old.

I guess I never read many classics, (that I wasn't forced to read). I think I just started reading suspense/mystery novels as soon as I got into reading and stuck with those. There are a lot of classics that I’ve never read, I like getting ideas for what to read too (The Count of Monte Cristo is going to be next up, I think, I loved the Jim Cav-whateverhisnameis film). There are some classics that I like, but I’m more of a mediaeval history or sci-fi/fantasy girl myself (but not usually at the same time). A lot of classics, I just don’t see what the fuss is about, really.

My whole family are so good with language, poetry and literature….by the time it got to me there was nothing left. But I do have a deep appreciation for its beauty and Steph uses it in such a beautiful manner, it just enchances something we already love……

The ever curious question of just what constitutes a vampire divorce rears its ugly head. Because Mick & Coraline had a human marriage (at least human wedding ceremony). Is Coraline his “ex” just cause he considered their relationship over? Or did he not call her his “Ex” until he thought she was dead? Hard to tell with the flashbacks done the way they are.

I’m reading Mansfield Park for the first time since being forced to sit through it at school, in the hope that the characters aren’t as vacuous, selfish and irritating as I thought they were when I was fourteen, and guess what? They are.
Vampire divorces – who knows? I’m not too clear on vampire marriages either. Does creating a vampire as a partner for yourself constitute a marriage? Mick, being the old-fashioned flower that he is, would have considered their marriage vows binding even though neither of them were human anymore, but that part wouldn’t have meant anything to Coraline, it was turning him that was the important thing to her… it’s a mess. I have no idea.
I think Mick probably didn’t think of her as his ex until he thought she was dead, because Josef said that he kept going back to her until she kidnapped Beth and he killed her (but not really), at which point she was his ‘ex’-wife in a very literal way (oh for the love of God, now I have the Monty Python parrot scene in my head. I shouldn’t comment this early in the morning).

That’s one reason I posted that last screen cap, I was thinking “oh, not so bad there!” The stylist for this show, I wonder what they were on sometimes. But then I wonder, “was there a story behind it?” Like the jewlery & the rando stuff in the apartment. Like, later on in the series would Beth have asked “what’s with the hair?”

Back in the day, I found myself in the minority as I LIKED the eps with Morgan/Coraline in them. Shannyn GLOWED as Coraline, and made the eps she was in absolutely stellar. I think I’m also in the minority, as I really enjoyed Beth’s VO this ep.
The first time I watched Moonlight, I found the shift between “I found my guardian angel” Beth at the end of 8, and “Die, vampire bitch, die!!” Beth in this ep a little jarring, but having the luxury of hindsight, I can see now how it actually did flow very well. Beth’s had time to think and she starts putting the pieces together…and yeah, I also would have been homicidal to know my vampire not-quite-boyfriend’s wife is not only shining him on, but is doing a pretty good job of it – AND was the one that kidnapped me when I was four.
FANTASTIC chemistry between Mick and Coraline, and I say that as a total Beth girl. Poor Mick – totally between a rock and a hard place.
I chuckle every time Beth almost gets caught at Morgan’s…and I wonder if she thinks that maybe wanting to be with a guy that can tell where she is just by sniffing is a good idea.
Mick’s client was a galactic douchebag – I can see why his wife cheated on him with his son. Creepy, yes. Understandable…also yes.
Mick was just all kinds of gorgeous in this ep, but I have to admit – my favorite scene was Beth going to Josef. She knows where to go to get answers, and Josef’s more than willing to provide them. Josef and Beth have one thing in common – they both love Mick.
Mick. Coraline. Shower. That look on his face. #Ijustcanteven
This one ranks right up as one of my Moonlight faves.

SUCH an interesting choice to have Beth do the v/o this episode. It would have been (why do I keep doing this to myself/us?) cool to see if there had been other episodes in the future that had Beth v/o and what they all had in common.
Mick’s client makes me never want to be anyone’s trophy wife. Ugh, what a horrible human being. And he was the GOOD GUY!
Oh good point, I never thought about “favorite scene” in this ep but Beth & Josef is right up there for sure!! It was just *perfect.* Love those two!!!

No offense to any of you blondes here though. Other non-fucup blondes. Morgan/Coraline does a good job in the show, for some reason I don’t hate her though. Spurschick writes it much better several paragraphs below.
As to the poor photography by Morgan, I figure that was just a cover story to wedge her way in between Mick and Beth.
As to the clients, they were all nasty. The client himself had a bad ‘tude toward the wife. The wife is sleeping with the son. The son is betraying his dad. They’re pretty much all trying to kill each other. They deserve each other.

My random thoughts on episode love potion #9, a.k.a. one of my, if not my, favorite ep:
– I would be intimidated by a door that I had to slap instead of knock.
– Chest. Hair. My fingers are angry that they can’t touch it.
– Oooooooh, bad hair though. Wet Mooney hair = bad.
– Half naked chick in a window? Of course that got his attention! Geez, Beth!
– Mick literally looks like he has tucked himself in the smallest corner of that passenger seat. Just didn’t pay to be a guy that day.
– In the car, Beth wanted to know for sure if it was Coraline. What was she planning to do once she found out?
– Hair looks good in the office!
– Beth and her blood drop necklaces.
– Coraline was clearly branded before she was turned. A point that I will revisit in the future.
– Unfortunately, Show picked an actress that,IMO, had more chemistry with Alex than Sophia did. Hence, I’m TeamCoraline.
– Oh please… like nobody noticed Mick running around with the phallic microphone.
– Beth sure is good at snooping through other people’s sh/t.
– The elevator. I wouldn’t have had that kind of willpower. TeamSuckFaceInTheElevator.
– How did they know exactly what room the wife and son were in so that they could get the perfect room across the street? Yeah, I know. It’s TV. I’ll shut up now.
– You’d think he would have known it was Coraline after they kissed. Which, btw, sigh.
– Um… Mick and Josef are wearing the same striped shirt.
– How did the son break into the fortress is that is Mick’s apartment?
– Speaking of breaking in… there goes Beth. Do vampires not believe in house alarms?!
– That kid’s room looks amazing spotless for being vacant all these years.
– Okay… so…. shower scene. This might possible be THE reason that this is my fave ep.
Sniff count: 1 (I seem to remember a whole lot more sniffing going on on this series, but the last few eps have been lame in that department)
Line of the ep: “Mick and Coraline’s relationship was one of those terrifying, self-destructive freak shows that YOU SPEND YOUR WHOLE LIFE SEARCHING FOR knowing that it can only end in one or both of you dead.”

I’m also not totally TeamBeth either. She annoyed the hell out of me at times. I think I liked their dynamic better because at least with Beth/Mick they had a friendship, partnership at the same time and that’s what I enjoyed. I’m not even sure how much I would’ve liked show in S2 after Mick/Beth “got together”. Guess I’ll never know. FU CBS!!

One of the reasons a Vamp wants to make sure about the humans “feelings” towards them. (My theory why Mick never wanted to take “advantage” of Beth)

She didn’t exactly grow up in a Leave It To Beaver family, (sorry if that’s a spoiler) but who’s to say that she wasn’t less of a psycho before she was turned. Walking alone at her party told me that she was relatively a lonely person. I think she saw qualities in Mick that she probably wished she had more of. She could have married anyone, but she chose him. And vice versa. Yeah, she was his drug of choice, but I don’t think he would have made that kind of commitment without there being more to the relationship. Had she not turned him, who knows what the marriage would have been like. Granted, turning him was a dealbreaker, but I feel for her that she knew it was the only way that they could be together. She didn’t do it with evil intentions… she truly thought she was giving him a wonderful gift of immortality. When he bailed on her, she went to even more desperate measures by kidnapping Beth to give Mick the family that she knew she could never give him otherwise. As Josef said, it’s not unlike human relationships where couples think that having children will fix what is already broken. Bottom line is… I never got the impression that Coraline ever did anything to intentionally hurt Mick. All she wanted was to live with him forever and make him happy. Unfortunately, her methods were beyond extreme.
Speaking of unhealthy, I have a strong aversion to Beth coming on to Mick while she’s still with Josh. I know that she has a bond with Mick because of what happened to her as a child, but that’s no excuse and I definitely don’t like how Mick also seems to be ignoring the face that Josh is still in the picture. Just something I thought was weird from a writing standpoint and not sure why Show chose to go in this direction instead of just making Beth available from the start.

Beth herself refers to “The Mick St John Charm” as if it’s a thing at the start of the ep – and I’m not sure “charming” is the first word I’d use to describe Mick — unless of course he was inadvertantly oozing his vampire allure all over me at the time, making me forget I had a boyfriend, etc etc etc.

Coraline dropped her dress for him the first night they met…she didn’t exactly wait around to fall in love with his mind. Her being with that other guy when she had invited Mick over was to fk with his head and see how far he’d go to be with her. That’s not real love. That’s lust.
She didn’t have a good childhood and obvi led a lonely vamp life. If she really thought she was giving him a ‘gift’, she’d have been honest and told him/asked him. Like Josef was with Sarah. I don’t think she had evil intentions or was trying to hurt him…but bottom line, it was really all about her (up to this point) no matter how much she tried to make it seem like she was just trying to please Mick. Coraline was satisfying Coraline.
I’ve never thought Mick was ignoring that Josh was around. He never went after her and never encouraged her. It did bother me that she was sometimes all over Mick in a sense and then at times not, completely with Josh. But maybe Foyeur is onto something with the vamp appeal. maybe between the event when she was a child and the curse of the vampire charm, she really was one torn little puppy. Torn between her love for her boyfriend and between the attraction for this new, exciting person that’s entered her life not only as a friend/coworker but also as a hero, having saved her life as well as others. Except for the supernatural element, that’s real life. I kinda get that. Her intent wasn’t to hurt anyone either.

So smug when she was strolling down the stairs! Yet Beth sent them out together knows their potential history so she needs to lighten the f/ck up when they hit it off so well.
We all would feel the same as Coraline wanting to get Mick back no matter what it takes. Sure her methods are a little extreme, but their chemistry!! I agree that if Beth had not shown up for a while longer the shower scene could have been *extended*. (that’s not the only thing that would have been extended) They are great together and that shower scene beats Beth’s shower scene. #TeamCoraline.
But while each is singularly motivated, could Mick be more conflicted?
How he feels about thinking he killed someone and finding out he did not, and she is backmand still wants him as much as ever. Knowing it is her, yet not fully knowing with confirmation that he is right. His growing feelings for Beth but pulling her back so hard to get her off Coraline!

I’m just trying to think of a reason other than “Coraline” but there’s nothing as good as blaming it on her! 😆 Because if I had all that time, I’d learn a few languages, play a few instruments, read all those books, travel…. yeah I would!!

Clearly he’s not doing it for a healthy heart. Aren’t vamps naturally strong? Or is this just one of those things that there is no reason behind other than giving the female fans something to look at.
